About

Yokohama's extreme-beer shrine, opened 2006 by metal-obsessive Koichi Katsuki when this city of 4 million had zero craft beer bars. Named after D.R.I.'s 1989 album 'Thrash Zone,' the venue is a hole-in-the-wall marked by a Marshall amp outside; inside, a back wall built as an amp stack, Xeroxed punk-and-metal flyers, Black Flag and Bad Brains on the signage, hundreds of records on the shelves. Slogan: EXTREME BEER ONLY. Katsuki started brewing in 2011 at Thrashzone Brew Labo nearby—steel tanks from online auctions, rig self-built at half the usual cost. Fourteen taps run mostly his own: Speed Kills IPA (7.8%), Hop Slave DIPA, Morbid Red, World Downfall Stout, Aru-Chu Barley Wine (13%); most beers 7–10% ABV and 100+ IBU. No food beyond nuts. Counter only, cards fine, no cover. Sister branch in Kannai serves meatballs.
