Founded as a neighborhood sento in 1932, Koganeyu was close to dying before Takuya Shinbo’s team and a crowdfunding-backed renovation reopened it in 2020 with Schemata’s stripped concrete shell, Hiroko Takahashi branding, a beer counter, and a DJ booth. KOGANEYU TOKYO is the drinking face of that project, with the house beer now tied to the nearby BATHE YOTSUME brewery line. The subculture is clear: sauna regulars, record people, and design pilgrims all orbit the same bandai. The beer is made for the bath, not for palate punishment. Start with SHOWER or SUNRISE downstairs, then go upstairs for keema if you need real food.
