AGLIO has been pouring Belgian beer in Shimotakaido long enough to show up in local beer people’s origin stories—one Tokyo brewer even cites it as his first regular spot. You climb a narrow staircase off the shotengai and land in a pubby room: counter seats, small tables, lamps, and bottles everywhere. Hoegaarden on draft is the anchor; the rest leans abbey classics and oddball fruit/sour bottles, plus the occasional guest. Food isn’t an afterthought—frites with house tartar, beer-braised beef cheek, and that dark-sauce omurice. It’s not a taproom; it’s a neighborhood holdout where regulars talk beer without performing. Expect an otoshi charge (around ¥300).
