Open since 2009, Tonga runs the Tokyo version of a “coffee first, bar later” shop: nel-drip and blends in the daytime slot, then the same counter flips to highballs, beer and wine after dark. It’s 16 seats total—four at the counter, the rest up a steep staircase—so you feel every arrival. Upstairs doubles as a tiny event room; DJs and birthday nights happen without changing the furniture. The crowd skews Yoyogi regulars and after-work strays, not checklist tourists. Food is simple: fries, fish-and-chips, salami, and a house meat pie when it’s on. Bring cash; smoking is separated. Ask for the upstairs table if you want quieter talk.
