A second-floor Koenji hideaway two minutes off the north exit, BocX runs seven counter stools and a few four-tops — nineteen seats, tight, low light, room enough to actually talk. The draft pour is Hoegaarden, but the reason to climb the stairs is the bottle fridge: forty-plus Belgian and German imports, from Orval and St. Bernardus to Duvel and Delirium. Order a Trappist ale with grilled sausage or a warm pretzel; the kitchen runs to closing. Open till 2am, dark on Wednesdays, smoking allowed, 500 yen charge. Come solo, take the counter, and work the list bottle by bottle.
