Koiwa sits at Tokyo's eastern edge, well past where tourists bother to go, which is the point. Nanachibushi, Ryukyu dialect for the Big Dipper's seven stars, runs as a non-smoking Okinawan izakaya with a genuine beer program: fifteen counter seats, room for thirty standing, no otoshi to pad the bill. Skip the Orion bottle and ask what craft is pouring that day; it's often Nago's 75 IPA at 690 yen. Anchor it with suuchika salt pork or goya champuru. Cheap 490-yen sanpin-tea highballs and sours keep the room loose and loud. Awamori for the committed. Come early; the standing crowd fills in fast.
