About

Opened May 5, 2023 on the ground floor of the SHAREyamabukicho share house, three minutes from Edogawabashi Exit 2, nine from Kagurazaka, down a narrow residential alley. The operator is architect Kuma Taichi and his firm TAILAND, an offshoot of his ongoing SHARE by TAILAND neighborhood-stitching project that has worked through Yaraicho, Tenjincho, and now Yamabukicho. The name is the old English spelling of 'shop' and the concept is a modern kakuuchi-style convenience store, eat, drink, buy, designed as a hub between residents and the workers in the area, the practical embodiment of his 2023 book 'Alternative Public'. Three glasses of natural wine on rotation (often orange-leaning, importer Lavenir among others), a fridge of Japan-focused craft cans (Vertere Okutama, Himitsu Beer collabs, and so on), hard liquor on the LIQUID shelf. Cans and bottles drunk in-store carry a ¥200 to ¥400 corkage. Food side is producer-curated: Suiyou Curry, All You Can Eat Press canned goods, TESIO Okinawa sausages, a ¥1500 charcuterie platter, cheese. Five or six people fill the room. Closed Tuesday and Wednesday.
